Arepa Mia is a family-run Venezuelan kitchen born in Atlanta's underground market in 2011 and now rooted in Avondale Estates. It started with Chef Lis Hernandez, who learned to cook at her mother's side in Venezuela and set out to share those flavors with her adopted city. Everything here is made the traditional way, and everything is 100% gluten-free, built on organic ingredients sourced from Georgia farms whenever the season allows. The heart of the menu is the arepa: cornmeal flour patties grilled, split, and stuffed with savory meats, cheeses, and vegetables. Alongside them come cachapas, sweet fresh-corn cakes folded like pancakes; empanadas, half-moon corn turnovers fried until golden and crisp; and patacones, fillings pressed between two slices of fried green plantain. It is honest, home-style food that carries the warmth of a Venezuelan table into a small, welcoming Georgia dining room. Come hungry, order an arepa or two, and taste the recipes that made this place a neighborhood favorite. We are open Tuesday through Saturday and would love to feed you.
