Retail & Shops in Palm Springs

Shopping here splits between the Uptown Design District at the north end of Palm Canyon, where the mid-century furniture and design dealers are, and the downtown blocks below it for clothing, gifts and jewelry. Palm Desert's El Paseo is the valley's other run. Summer hours shorten across all of it, and several of the design dealers work by appointment as much as by foot traffic.

Restaurants & Food in Palm Springs

Palm Springs eating concentrates on Palm Canyon Drive and the Uptown Design District, with Arenas Road a block of its own and the rest of the valley strung along Highway 111 through Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert. Summer is the thing to plan around: rooms close for weeks in July and August, and reopening dates move, so check the day before you drive out. Reservations matter far more between January and April than they do in September.

Arts & Entertainment in Palm Springs

Galleries, theater companies, choruses and tours across Palm Springs, most of them working a season that runs against the heat rather than with it. Performances cluster from autumn through spring, and summer programming is lighter. The galleries change shows on their own schedule and publish them, which is the best way to time a visit down Palm Canyon.

Travel & Hospitality in Palm Springs

The valley's small hotels and resorts are the local industry, from mid-century boutique properties downtown to the adults-only and clothing-optional resorts around Warm Sands. Rates swing harder here than almost anywhere: a room in high season and the same room in August are different prices entirely. Modernism Week, Coachella and Pride weekends book out months ahead.
