His Goddess Ember & Veil started in 2020 with incense and incense burners, then turned toward natural herbs and the handcrafted simmer pots the brand is known for now. A ritual pot goes on the stove, and a room changes. That is the whole idea: something small and deliberate that shifts the air in a house. The ritual pots are named for what they do. Quiet The Room softens a space and settles the senses with lemon, lavender, chamomile flower and bay leaf. Ember Harvest brings dried citrus, crisp apple and cinnamon. Celestial Mint is cool and uplifting, peppermint, lemon, eucalyptus and rosemary. Alongside them sit hand-dipped incense sticks, backflow cones and the burners built for them, a large lotus flower burner, and palo santo bundles tied by hand. The incense smoke bottles are decorated one at a time and no two leave the studio alike, from rose gold and glitter finishes to Day of the Dead and Mardi Gras pieces. Custom orders are welcome, so a bottle can be made for a celebration, a sorority, a holiday, or a corner of a room that wants something of its own. Veil Sessions carries the same intention into a room full of people. The first gathering, Quiet the Room, brought guests together in Houston for a herbal tea ceremony, a guided sound bath, intention setting and affirmation cards, a few hours built for stepping away from everyday stress and slowing down on purpose. LAMIK Beauty was born in Houston, Texas in 2004, when Kim Roxie founded the brand at age 21 out of her college apartment with her own savings and a small investment from her mother. LAMIK stands for Love And Makeup In Kindness, and that name has guided everything the brand does. What began as a makeup counter in a Houston mall grew into a mission that is bigger than beauty. That mission took shape when Kim discovered how many everyday cosmetics were made with parabens, talc, and other known carcinogens. Women of color have long been underserved and overexposed by the beauty market, and Kim set out to change that. LAMIK became a clean, vegan makeup line crafted with natural and organic ingredients, made intentionally for multicultural women who deserve products that are both safe and beautiful. The brand's philosophy is simple and powerful: Beauty is Revealed, Not Applied. LAMIK products are designed to work with your skin, not to cover it up. From the signature brow collection that Kim first created for herself while navigating hair loss, to foundations, cleansers, and moisturizers, every formula is built to celebrate what is already there. Kim Roxie's leadership has earned wide recognition. She became one of the youngest African American women to launch a full cosmetic line inside a major department store, and LAMIK made history as one of the first Black-owned certified clean beauty brands to reach a national clean beauty retailer. Ebony Magazine named Kim one of five Black cosmetics entrepreneurs to know, and she was honored on the Houston Business Journal's 40 Under 40 list in 2019. After closing the original storefront in 2018 to focus fully on clean formulation, LAMIK relaunched as an e-commerce brand in 2020, bringing its values to customers everywhere. Today LAMIK Beauty remains a proudly Black woman-owned company rooted in Houston, still led by the founder who started it all. It stands as proof that a beauty brand can be clean, inclusive, purpose-driven, and kind at every step, revealing the beauty that was there all along.

COLECOLORS is a professional makeup artistry studio in Houston, founded and led by Steven D. Coleman. Bridal, editorial, television and everyday applications are booked by appointment, alongside a vegan, cruelty free lip collection sold under the COLECOLORS name. Steven came to makeup from drawing, and to skin from a first career as a microbiologist. That combination is the method: he reads the skin before he reaches for color, which is why a full face holds through a wedding day or a studio call without ever feeling heavy. There are no complicated menus and no surprise fees, only a curated kit of high performance products and a look tailored to the occasion. A full application usually takes 45 to 60 minutes, depending on what is being asked for. Three services cover most of the work. The signature classic application is a bespoke full face, from a soft radiant glow to bold statement glam, finished with COLECOLORS lip products available at the appointment. Bridal is built around the day itself: a day of application, a personalized touch up kit and add ons for the wedding party, so the look survives from the first look to the last dance. Photoshoot and television bookings are HD and studio ready, taken as half or full days, with team coordination on request for larger productions. The portfolio runs wider than glam. Steven works across every skin tone and texture, and the same hands that build a clean bridal eye also build avant garde and editorial faces, which is how the work reached VH1, TLC, BET, KHOU 11 and ABC 13 and magazines here and abroad. Clients have included Keri Hilson, Jennifer Holliday, Cherie Johnson and Victoria Osteen, along with models, actors and a long list of Houstonians who simply wanted to look in the mirror and smile. The lip line came out of the same curiosity. After two years of looking for a gloss that suited every age and complexion, Steven began mixing colors in his own kitchen and handing samples to clients for feedback, then found a producer who could make what the feedback described: smooth, non sticky and genuinely pigmented. The collection has since grown to include skin care for men and women, on the principle he has repeated to clients for years, that good skin comes before good makeup. Appointments are booked through the COLECOLORS calendar and held with a deposit that is applied to the final balance. The studio serves Houston and the surrounding area and travels for weddings and productions.

Ordinary Architecture Practice is an architecture and interior design studio in Houston's East End, and the name is the argument. Ordinary means commonly encountered, usual: a cup of coffee, a dining room chair, a pair of sneakers. Common things can be great things when someone takes the time to understand what is meaningful, pays attention to the details, and questions what has been done before. The same is true of the places where daily life actually happens, and those are the places OAP works on. The studio exists to enhance the lives of the communities it is part of through the thoughtful creation of space, and it gets there by taking a collaborative and inclusive approach to simple, functional design. Three services fit together into one process. Architecture covers programming, schematic design, design development and construction documentation, then construction administration, which means making sure the building goes up the way it was drawn. Interiors answers how a space will be used and how it should feel, through finishes, fixtures, furnishings and often furniture designed for the room it sits in, so one team carries a project from the structure through to the last surface. Site analysis and feasibility comes first for anyone who needs to know whether a project can be built as they imagine it, and what the site, the codes and the budget will allow. OAP works with building technologies many practices leave alone: 3D printed construction, insulated concrete form construction, near zero-carbon green cement, and Building Information Modeling used as a way of seeing a project rather than a way of filing it. The BIM process gives a client an accurate visual of the design while it is still being made, so the questions get asked early and there are fewer surprises later. The work runs from a backyard bungalow in the Houston Heights, an accessory dwelling unit slotted into a narrow back garden for a client's sister after she retired and joined to the main house by a shared outdoor room, to Layer One, one of the largest 3D printed concrete homes in the world, designed with the home builder Hive 3D. In Rice Village, the studio rebuilt the sneaker boutique Premium Goods around a perforated breeze block screen that gives the women's and men's sections rooms of their own without shutting either one off, with furniture made for the space so the store can become a gallery or an event venue overnight. Premium Kids opened alongside it. Seaside Poke, a Gulf Coast office and customer training facility for VEGA Americas, and an office and warehouse renovation for Actuation Plus in Conroe belong to the same portfolio, as do the temporary retail installations built with Premium Goods for Nike and New Era releases. Backyard Bungalow was on the AIA Houston 2025 Home Tour.
