Big Chicks is a beloved LGBTQ+ neighborhood bar in Chicago's Uptown, open since 1986 and owned by Michelle Fire. Warm, welcoming, and unpretentious, it has long been a gathering spot for the city's gay and lesbian community, as well as anyone looking for a friendly place to drink, dance, and connect. What sets Big Chicks apart is its remarkable art collection: the walls are lined with original works, photography, and pieces from the owner's personal collection, giving the bar the feel of a living gallery as much as a watering hole. Weekend dance nights, themed parties, and a genuinely mixed crowd have made it an Uptown institution for decades. Next door, its sister cafe Tweet serves as the daytime counterpart. Opened in 2003 inside a vintage art deco space, Tweet is known for a standout brunch and breakfast menu built around fresh, organic-when-possible ingredients, offering both classic comfort dishes and more inventive plates. Together, Big Chicks and Tweet cover the full arc of a day in Uptown, from unhurried morning brunch to late-night drinks, all with the same inclusive, community-minded spirit. Both are cash only. Located at 5024 N Sheridan Road, they remain a cornerstone of Chicago's North Side LGBTQ+ scene.
