..is the desire to bring Salvadoran culture and cuisine in a nice warm atmosphere to the heart of Berkeley, California. Now, Chef Nicolas & his brother Juan are stepping up to keep the authentic taste of El Salvador and Central America in the Bay Area

Platano first opened its doors in Berkeley, on July 15th, 2006. Thanks to the great taste of our food & culture, we have extended throughout the Bay Area, Central Valley and now opened our doors in 3 other locations (Oakland, Tracy, & Stockton)

Our specialties are our authentic Pupusas , stuffed thick corn flour tortillas or rice flour served with curtido and salsa, and our famous Mar y Tierra , grilled New York steak & grilled seasoned shrimp served with avocado and chimol.
