Cali Alley is a fully outdoor artisan food window tucked into an alley in West Berkeley, run by Bay Area chef Dov Sims. You order at the walk-up window on Grayson Street and take it away: brioche sandwiches, smash burgers, fried shrimp and fried chicken, tacos, ribs and grilled chicken rice bowls, waffles and weekend brunch, plus a board of seasonal specials that changes with whatever is good that week. Smoked brisket and skirt steak sandwiches are regulars. It is the sister operation to California Rose Catering, so the same kitchen also takes catering bookings, and gift cards and online ordering are available. Open Monday through Saturday, 11:30am to 8pm, and closed Sundays.
