Darnel's Cakes

Darnel's Cakes is a family-run, Black-owned bakery and cafe rooted in Philadelphia's Northern Liberties neighborhood at 444 North Third Street. What started as a passion for baking has grown into a beloved neighborhood spot known just as much for its from-scratch cakes as for its breakfast and lunch. Mornings bring flaky, homemade buttermilk biscuits stacked into breakfast sandwiches, alongside fresh pastries and a full coffee menu. Come midday, the kitchen turns out hearty lunch favorites like vegetable pot pie and other made-from-scratch comfort dishes. Everything is built around the same idea: real food, made with care, served in a warm and welcoming space. The team has since added a second home, Cafe Darnel's on Spring Garden Street, and can also be found sharing their baking at the Lansdale and Fairmount farmers' markets.
