Grassrootz Bookstore

Welcome to Grassrootz Bookstore, Eastlake Park's own Black-owned and activist-owned bookstore and your local downtown Phoenix community hub. Founded on July 4, 2019 by Ali Nervis, we are proud to be Phoenix's only Black-owned bookstore, a space built around culture, education, wellness, and connection. Step inside and you will find shelves stacked with African-American literature, history, and culture, alongside apparel, art, and wellness goods from Black makers. Grab something fresh from our juice bar and coffee shop, settle into our collaborative workspace, or borrow a title from our lending library, where you can take a book home for 30 days for just five dollars. We are more than a store. We are a gathering place, rooted in community and built for everyone who calls this neighborhood home. From free breakfast programs to author events and everyday conversations over a cup of coffee, we work to put knowledge, ownership, and Black culture back into the hands of our people. Come read with us, learn with us, and grow with us. This is your bookstore, and there is always a seat for you at the table.
