Happy Cork is a wine and spirits shop on Buffalo Avenue in Brooklyn, opened by Sunshine Foss to fill a gap she found when she went looking for it: very few of the brands on a typical shelf are Black-owned.
The shop now carries what it believes is the country's largest assortment of Black-owned wine and spirits, alongside women-owned and minority-owned brands, and has poured labels including Viarae, Wade Cellars and Frisky Whiskey.
Tastings are central to how the shop works, on the reasoning that customers will not buy a producer they have never heard of without meeting the wine first. There is a wine club and an app.
