Hoover's Cooking has been serving Texas home cooking in Austin since 1998. Hoover Alexander found the business at the Night Hawk while he was at the University of Texas, rolling pie dough, making gumbo and covering for the head chef on his days off, and learned the trade from the ground up.
The plates are the ones the name promises: smoked meats, chicken-fried steak, greens, cornbread and the sides that belong beside them.
In 2011 Hoover opened the Soular Foods Garden trailer to close the gap between soulful cooking and food fresh from the garden, planting urban gardens and pushing more balanced eating with the same voice he uses in the dining room.
