Hugo's
Houston, TX
At Hugo's, we serve the many regions of Mexico from a beautifully restored 1925 building in the heart of Montrose. Chef Hugo Ortega opened these doors in 2002, bringing to the table the flavors he grew up with and a journey that took him from Mexico City to Houston, where he began as a dishwasher and rose to become a James Beard Award winning chef. Everything here is made from scratch in the Mexican tradition. We grind our own cheeses, simmer complex Oaxacan moles, press masa for handmade tortillas, and work our own chocolate. The menu moves from light and fresh coastal seafood to earthy, slow-cooked dishes that honor the country's diverse regional kitchens. Our dining room pairs contemporary sophistication with warm, traditional Mexican design, and our bar is anchored by an award-winning wine program, a spirited cocktail list, and a deep tequila selection. Join us for dinner during the week, a leisurely lunch later in the week, or our beloved Sunday brunch. Whatever brings you in, we welcome you the way we would welcome family, with generosity, craft, and pride in every plate.
