Platypus is an eclectic cocktail bar and live-music venue in the Grove neighborhood of St. Louis, located at 4501 Manchester Avenue at the west entrance of the district. Opened in late 2021 alongside its food companion Eat DuckBill, the bar quickly earned national attention, landing on Food & Wine magazine's list of the 10 best bars in the country. The drink program centers on a small, rotating lineup of about five creative cocktails, built partly around the goal of training great bartenders, while DuckBill anchors a compact food menu with popcorn chicken, hand-cut fries, roasted cauliflower and crispy tofu. The multi-space interior is a deliberate hodgepodge of local artwork, memorabilia and colorful platypus murals by artist Killer Napkins, mixing arcade games and intimate corners with rooms built for lively DJ sets. Programming runs from live music and DJs to comedy nights, karaoke and monthly queer mixers, giving the room the raucous feel of a neighborhood living room. Platypus describes itself as your favorite neighborhood bar and is designed to be inclusive for its diverse staff and customers alike.
