We're Prince's Hot Chicken, and we started it all. More than a century ago, our family legend says Thornton Prince came home to a lover who had had enough of his late nights. She doused his fried chicken in fiery pepper as payback, but Thornton loved it so much he made it his life's work. That accidental act of revenge became Nashville hot chicken, the dish this city is now known for around the world. Today the shack is led by André Prince Jeffries, Thornton's great-niece, who has kept the family recipe and the family spirit alive through every generation. Our chicken is fried to order and hand-dipped in a cayenne paste that runs from a gentle mild all the way up to our legendary XXX Hot, always served the way it always has been: on white bread with pickles to cut the heat. We're proud to be Black family-owned and to be the originators, not an imitation.
