Scotts' Jamaican Bakery is a family bakery founded by George and Pauline Scott on Albany Avenue in Hartford's North End, first opened as Hartford West Indian Bakery Company. Now carrying the family name, it has become a cultural fixture in Hartford, serving Jamaican cuisine under a motto that still holds: We Bake with Love. The ovens turn out Jamaican patties, coco bread, Easter buns and hardo bread, baked fresh every day without the chemical stabilizers that keep supermarket loaves soft for weeks. For holidays and special occasions, the bakery's duck bread dresses up the table. Catering is available, and the bakery serves Hartford from its Albany Avenue, Blue Hills Avenue and Main Street branches.
