Self Help Graphics & Art's Dia de los Muertos Celebration, in its 53rd year, is one of the longest-running public Dia de los Muertos events in the United States. The 2026 edition begins with a 2 p.m. procession from Mariachi Plaza and continues block-party style on Anderson Street in Boyle Heights from 3 to 10 p.m. It is part of the Smithsonian's 'Of the People' festival network.
What to expect
Día de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition of remembering loved ones who have died, held around November 1 and 2. Celebrations often include ofrendas (altars), marigolds, sugar skulls, face painting, music and processions.
Self Help Graphics & Art Día de los Muertos Celebration has included procession led by danza azteca chicomecoatl, live music and dance, community altars, muertos market, food vendors and face painting and art activities.
