PFLAG Birmingham

PFLAG Birmingham is the Birmingham chapter of PFLAG, working for full equality and civil rights for all people. Its monthly peer-to-peer support group meetings help families in crisis dispel myths and stereotypes about sexual orientation and gender identity. By encouraging dialogue in a confidential, non-judgmental environment, the chapter promotes the health and wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people, their families and their friends.

The chapter's work rests on three pillars. Support brings together LGBTQ+ people and the people who love them. Education aims to dispel myths and misinformation by reaching the public and local community leaders. Advocacy encourages lawmakers to support equal civil rights for everyone. The chapter's website also gathers local resources, information on affirming faith communities and other support links for families.

All are welcome at the support meetings, held the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Birmingham. Chapter membership is $30 a year for individuals and $45 for families and couples, and dues are not required to take part in meetings or events. Donations support the chapter's outreach and advocacy efforts.
