NorCal OUTreach Project

Redding, CA · Serving Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties

Serves LGBTQIA+ individuals, youth, veterans, and allies in Redding and rural Northern CaliforniaLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

NorCal OUTreach Project operates the only permanent LGBTQ+ community center in far Northern California, serving Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity counties from its headquarters in downtown Redding. Established in 2008, the organization works to reduce rural isolation, celebrate cultural diversity, and advance public safety for LGBTQIA+ individuals, families, and allies. Through support groups, community education, and civic gatherings, the center fosters emotional resilience and social inclusion in a geographic region where affirming resources are historically limited.

Youth initiatives offer middle and high school students an affirming, judgment-free space to discuss sexual orientation, gender identity, adolescent development, and family relationships. Facilitated by experienced mentors, weekly meetings combine open discussion with fun recreational activities that cultivate self-confidence. Adult programs address specialized community needs through groups such as GenderQuest, which provides peer support for transgender and gender-expansive adults, alongside social support circles for young adults and LGBTQ+ military veterans transitioning to civilian life.

The organization also serves as the host and organizer of the annual Redding Pride celebration, uniting local performers, supportive businesses, civic groups, and hundreds of community participants. Outreach specialists conduct cultural humility workshops, sensitivity training, and educational presentations for local school districts, healthcare networks, corporate employers, and law enforcement agencies. By combining direct local peer support with broader community education, the center helps build a more informed and welcoming climate throughout the North State.
