Our Family Coalition

Our Family Coalition advances equity for the full and expanding spectrum of LGBTQ+ families and children through support, education and advocacy. Formed in 2002 when East Bay-based Our Family (1994) merged with San Francisco-based All Our Families Coalition (1996), it works from offices in San Francisco's Mission District and in Oakland.

Family support is the heart of the work, with hundreds of events each year in San Francisco and the East Bay: playgroups, family socials such as Queer Art in the Park, seasonal celebrations, field trips and peer-led affinity groups for parents and kids who share intersecting identities. Groups include a Prospective and Expectant Parent Peer Group and LGBTQ+ Parents Beyond Biology for non-biological and non-gestational parents. Evening workshops, usually virtual and always free, cover adoption, alternative conception, surrogacy, second-parent adoption, coming out to children and legal protections for nontraditional families. The 12-week Triple P Positive Parenting series includes childcare and a warm meal, and food box pickups support San Francisco LGBTQ+ families.

The Education team trains teachers, administrators and child-serving professionals to make schools welcoming for LGBTQ+ families and supports California K-12 educators teaching the LGBTQ-inclusive history and social science framework. On policy, parent leaders work with state and national partners on family law, inclusive schools, transgender rights, immigration and healthcare; in 2025 the Coalition backed new California laws on inclusive paid family leave and LGBTQ+ adoption protections.
