PFLAG Fresno

PFLAG Fresno has supported LGBTQ+ people and the people who love them since 1993. As a local chapter of PFLAG, the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families, it brings together parents, family members, friends, allies and LGBTQ+ people to build a more loving, inclusive and safe Fresno.

The heart of the chapter is its monthly support group, held the second Sunday of each month from 2 to 4 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church on East Barstow Avenue, with the educational hour also streamed on Zoom. The first hour features a speaker or panel (each November it is a Trans 101 program), and the second hour is time to ask questions and share stories. There is no cost, and membership is not required. Between meetings, volunteers staff a Warm Line, make individual referrals and share introductory booklets in English and Spanish.

PFLAG Fresno also works to make the city better for LGBTQ+ families. It organizes community members to speak at city council, school board and county supervisors meetings, and it built the Little Queer Library at the Fresno EOC LGBTQ+ Resource Center so LGBTQ+ stories stay on the shelf. It seeks out affirming medical and mental health providers, hosts informal meet and greets with them, and shares its list on the resources page. The Little Queer Book Club meets the fourth Saturday of each month at the Queer Collective Fresno.

The chapter is entirely volunteer run. Household memberships are $30 a year, the email list shares meetings and events, and donations are accepted through ActBlue.
