PFLAG Tri-Valley is the local chapter of PFLAG National for Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore. Founded in 2017 by parents who saw the need for a supportive place where families and allies could learn, share experiences and advocate, it works toward a caring, just and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.
The chapter holds monthly community meetings for family members of LGBTQ+ people, LGBTQ+ community members and allies who are 18 and older. Each month has a theme or event, from card making and trivia nights to a Spring Social, and most meetings are hybrid so people can join in person or online. Anyone who cannot make a meeting can ask to meet one-on-one over coffee. Dates, times and locations are shared by email (info@pflagtrivalley.org).
Education is a large part of the work. PFLAG Tri-Valley leads customized LGBTQIA+ inclusivity trainings of about 75 minutes for workplaces, schools, healthcare providers, nonprofits, senior living communities and faith spaces. It also offers an annual READ Grant so K-8 public school teachers in Livermore, Pleasanton and Dublin can buy inclusive books for their classrooms, and it sponsors the Champion of Pride Award at the Alameda County Fair. The resources page gathers school district, college and PFLAG National guides in English and Spanish.
Membership starts at $15 for students and $30 for an individual or household, and the chapter welcomes volunteers and donations.
