The Arc Imperial Valley

The Arc Imperial Valley helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities achieve their potential through work, daily living skills and a place to call home. It began in 1963 when a group of parents met to talk about their children's needs, and it incorporated in 1973. Today it provides employment, vocational preparation, residential, paratransit and specialized training programs across Imperial County, with no charge to participants who qualify through the San Diego Regional Center or the California Department of Rehabilitation.

Employment is at the center of the work. Through the federal AbilityOne program, participants train and work on government contracts, earning levels of accomplishment through the STARS Program, and The Arc is the largest janitorial service provider in the Imperial Valley. The Work Activity Program offers recycling, assembly and packaging jobs, while Supported Employment places workers in community enclaves. The Arc also runs a commercial kitchen, a car wash, a recycling center, the StrikeZone Bowling Center in El Centro and Mozzarelli restaurants, all of which employ people with disabilities.

Day services include the Maureen Kimball Adult Development Center, the Activity Center Program and a Behavioral Program, each building self-care, social and job skills at the participant's own pace. Residential Services operates licensed group homes (ICF/DD-H) and an Independent Living Program that coaches adults to live on their own. Arc Transportation provides curb-to-curb paratransit and non-emergency medical transportation throughout Imperial and San Diego counties.

Volunteers serve on the board, help with special events and art projects, and students are welcome. Donations can be made online or by calling the main office.
