The Arc of Aurora

The Arc of Aurora has advocated for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families since 1975. It works alongside individuals, families, schools, agencies and community partners to protect rights, widen options and make publicly funded systems more responsive.

Individual advocacy is the core program. An advocate works one-on-one with a person or family in the City of Aurora to understand rights and options, navigate education, services and benefits, solve problems and connect to community resources. The approach is respectful and collaborative, starting with listening and building self-advocacy and decision-making. The support is typically short-term and goal-focused. Families outside Aurora can reach one of the 14 Colorado chapters of The Arc.

THINK+change is the training and education program, offering online and in-person trainings, mini documentaries, podcasts and educational tools that help families, professionals and community members understand and support people with IDD. Systems change advocacy brings the voices of people with IDD and their families to policymakers to advance inclusive policy. The office also shares community resource guides for food, housing, health care and family support.

The office on South Chambers Road is accessible, with on-demand interpretation in more than 150 languages and Spanish bilingual staff. Anyone can become a Supporting Member, volunteer, donate needed items or give through Colorado Gives.
