The Arc Pikes Peak Region

The Arc Pikes Peak Region defends the rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and walks alongside their families in El Paso, Park and Teller counties. Organized in 1955 by parents of people with IDD, it is the local chapter of The Arc of the United States, and its core services are free of charge.

Advocates provide adult, educational and judicial advocacy, helping parents prepare for IEP and 504 meetings and understand their child's rights under IDEA. The Succeeding in School and Life Program pairs families with Educational Navigators who coach parents at home, at The Arc or in the community, alongside monthly family socials, family music classes, parent workshops and teen social nights. Through court appointment, the Guardianship Program serves as legal guardian for adults with IDD, and staff also guide families through Supported Decision-Making as an alternative. A Pooled Income Trust, approved by Colorado Medicaid, lets beneficiaries hold assets without losing public benefits.

Community life runs through everything. Cool C.A.T.S. (Children of All Types Succeeding) offers inclusive cycling, cooking classes, monthly bowling and sibling activities. Adults 18 and older meet for monthly social groups such as the Adult Music & Social Hour, and Include U.S.A., a self-advocacy group of adults with IDD, meets to build friendships and speak up with lawmakers. The Mobile Universal Changing Station brings an adult-sized changing table to festivals and public events across the region.
