Urban League of Southern Connecticut

The Urban League of Southern Connecticut works to help African Americans and other minority groups secure and sustain economic self-reliance and parity. Based in New Haven, it offers job training, housing counseling and small business education, with workshops and one-on-one counseling that include financial education and wrap-around services to break down barriers to self-sufficiency. The mission carries forward the Urban League legacy that dates to 1910.

The Entrepreneurship Empowerment Center gives aspiring business owners a learning environment and a curriculum built for people starting out. Housing programs provide education and counseling on homebuying, foreclosure prevention, budgeting and credit, so families can find and keep safe, stable, affordable housing. Workforce programs offer courses for building new skills or sharpening existing ones, including nationally recognized credentials and certifications.

True Haven, short for TRUusted rEsidents and Housing Assistance to decrease Violence Exposure in New Haven, serves people returning from incarceration and their families with six months of financial education and housing support. It also trains trusted community members and organization leaders in trauma-informed counseling, through free Trauma-Informed Training workshops held at the Dixwell Q-House. EQBMED, a partnership with Yale School of Medicine, Morehouse School of Medicine and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, hosts community conversations in New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford and Norwalk about participation in clinical trials.
