PFLAG Wilmington / North Delaware

PFLAG Wilmington / North Delaware is the local chapter of PFLAG, offering support, education and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people, their families and their allies. The chapter is run entirely by volunteers and works on the belief that every person should be respected and affirmed for their sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression.

The heart of the chapter is its monthly support meeting, held the second Thursday of each month from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in Room 1100 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, with a Zoom option for people who cannot attend in person. Adults of any age are welcome, and so are younger guests with a parent or guardian. Attendees are not asked to join, register (except for Zoom) or explain their connection: parents, LGBTQ+ people and allies all come to listen, ask questions and talk. The chapter also keeps a 24-hour help line and can arrange a "pop-up" meeting for someone who needs to talk before the next gathering, and its library of PFLAG booklets is free to anyone who attends.

Beyond meetings, PFLAG Wilmington offers grants of up to $500 to Delaware school GSAs for club projects, awards scholarships periodically, and backs local partners such as PTK (Parents of Trans Kids) Delaware, an LGBTQ+ youth group and the Delaware LGBTQ+ Housing Safeguard Committee, which works with West End Neighborhood House on supportive housing for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness.
