PFLAG Tampa

PFLAG Tampa brings LGBTQ+ people and the people who love them together for support, education and advocacy across Tampa Bay. A chapter of the national PFLAG movement since 2011, it is where parents, caregivers, partners, friends and LGBTQ+ people come to ask questions, listen and find others who understand.

The heart of the chapter is its free support meeting, held monthly at Capital One Café in Hyde Park Village, with a virtual option for people who would rather join from home. No membership is required, and no one has to talk. The meeting is peer support rather than therapy, and PFLAG Tampa also points families to PFLAG National guidance on coming out, trans and nonbinary loved ones, and faith.

Beyond the meeting room, PFLAG Tampa brings LGBTQ+ education into workplaces, schools, universities, healthcare settings and faith communities. Since 2019 it has helped convene Tampa's annual Transgender Day of Remembrance gathering, and its members march and table at Pride every year. The chapter launched PFLAG Tampa Hispano in 2015 for Spanish-speaking families, helped form Tampa Pride, Inc. in 2014, and has spoken up at County Hall and in Tallahassee for nondiscrimination protections. Social gatherings round out the calendar, including Gays Eating Garlic Bread in the Park at Al Lopez Park.

People can get involved by attending, volunteering at events and Pride, inviting PFLAG Tampa to speak with a workplace or congregation, partnering on outreach, or giving to keep support and education going.
