Urban League of Greater Miami

The Urban League of Greater Miami prepares youth, families and communities for the future by expanding pathways to opportunity. An affiliate of the National Urban League, it works across education, housing, employment, health and advocacy, with a particular focus on families, especially women with young children, and on access to education and workforce development.

Education programs reach students from elementary school through high school. We Rise Reads engages Miami-Dade County Public Schools students year-round and in summer, in person and online, with academic support, mentoring, family engagement and enrichment in STEM, the arts, nutrition, fitness and civic engagement. Achievement Matters helps students in grades six through 12 prepare for college and careers with SAT and ACT test camps, mentoring and financial aid guidance. Crime Prevention and Intervention keeps young people on track through Teen Summits, Community Bridge activities, dropout prevention and academic tutoring, and Man Up! gives young men an annual program on HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention.

The League manages affordable rental communities in Miami for families, seniors and people with disabilities, including M&M Maison II, M&M Maison Townhomes, Renaissance at Sugar Hill, Urban Courtyard and Carrie P. Meek Manor for residents 62 and older. Its affiliate New Urban Development builds projects that spark neighborhood revitalization.

Community events bring resources directly to families. First Day Ready gives children free haircuts and braids, health screenings and dental services before the school year. Professionals ages 21 to 40 can join the Young Professionals auxiliary, and supporters can subscribe to the newsletter or donate.
