Clock, Inc.
Rock Island, IL · Serving Quad Cities metropolitan area of Illinois and Iowa
Clock, Inc. operates the central LGBTQ+ community center serving the bi-state Quad Cities metropolitan area. Founded in 2019 to confront isolation and establish dedicated community infrastructure, the organization takes its name and iconic logo design from the Stonewall Uprising of June 28, 1969. Every clock inside the center is intentionally set to 6:28, serving as a constant reminder of the historical struggle for civil rights and the ongoing movement toward equity, acceptance, and dignity across Illinois and Iowa.
The physical center in Rock Island provides a welcoming, multi-functional home where community members can gather, access resources, and build supportive networks. A major component of the organization's work is its clinical mental health counseling program. Staffed by licensed mental health counselors, the clinic provides individualized psychotherapy through both in-person and telehealth appointments, addressing anxiety, depression, identity formation, and systemic minority stress in an affirming, culturally humble environment.
Peer support groups meet regularly at the center, offering safe spaces tailored to specific ages and lived experiences. Programming includes dedicated groups for middle school students ages 10 to 14, high school youth ages 14 to 18, young adults, and transgender and nonbinary adults. In addition, Clock, Inc. hosts a parent-led support circle for families navigating the journey of raising transgender or gender-diverse children, fostering mutual understanding, compassionate dialogue, and practical guidance among caregivers.
Essential material support is provided through the center's Gender Affirming Clothing Closet and chest binder assistance program. Individuals can freely browse donated apparel, winter outerwear, shoes, and transition items in a private, supportive atmosphere. The center also maintains a community computer lab, study tables, and a lending library, while providing practical assistance with legal name changes and gender marker updates on official documents.
Social and recreational gatherings form another vital dimension of the center's weekly life. The organization coordinates Queer Community Nights, textile and craft circles, and monthly community potlucks held in partnership with Free Mom Hugs QC. These events bring together diverse generations of LGBTQ+ residents, friends, and families in an affirming setting that celebrates queer culture, combats loneliness, and builds authentic neighborhood connections across the metropolitan area.
Beyond internal programs, Clock, Inc. acts as a cultural anchor and educational resource for the broader Quad Cities community. The organization delivers specialized workshops, corporate diversity consultations, and LGBTQ+ cultural competency trainings to regional workplaces, healthcare facilities, and school districts. Staff also partner closely with local artistic and cultural institutions, such as the Figge Art Museum and municipal public libraries, to showcase LGBTQ+ artists, preserve community history, and highlight youth creative work. Through these comprehensive educational initiatives, Clock, Inc. drives lasting systemic change, counters isolation, and fosters an inclusive region where all individuals can thrive openly across northwestern Illinois and eastern Iowa.
