Serves Transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse individuals and their loved ones across IndianaLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

GenderNexus is Indiana's dedicated community and wellness agency focused entirely on empowering transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse people alongside their families and partners. Established in 2014 by trans community leaders and advocates, the organization was created on the foundational conviction that every individual deserves to live authentically and joyfully, free from systemic discrimination, social isolation, and institutional hostility. The statewide center works to eliminate systemic social, health, and economic disparities through comprehensive wraparound care. Operating from its center on North Meridian Street in Indianapolis, the agency offers an array of comprehensive, affirmative programs and support services that are provided completely free of charge to all clients across the state.

At the heart of the agency's work are peer-led support groups designed to build community connection, emotional resilience, and shared understanding. The organization hosts weekly gender-inclusive community circles for adults ages 18 and older, welcoming participants in both face-to-face gatherings and virtual meetings to accommodate individuals living in rural, suburban, and urban communities throughout Indiana. For individuals beginning to explore their authentic identities, the Pathfinding program provides a structured, eight-week facilitated cohort that allows participants to process questions in a respectful, affirming environment. Recognizing the relational aspects of social transition, the agency also facilitates a dedicated partner group, offering spouses and significant others a constructive forum to share experiences and process relationship transitions.

Family acceptance is one of the strongest protective factors for gender-diverse people, and GenderNexus places heavy emphasis on caregiver support and education. The organization conducts an intensive seven-week Parent and Caregiver Support Group designed to help parents and guardians of children, adolescents, and adult children gain deeper insight into gender diversity. Guided by experienced facilitators, caregivers learn how to advocate effectively for their children in school, healthcare, and social settings while processing their own questions and feelings with peers on similar journeys.

In addition to peer community groups, care coordinators and social workers provide personalized supportive counseling and healthcare navigation. Licensed clinicians conduct comprehensive evaluations and write formal referral letters adhering to World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) standards of care, enabling clients to access necessary gender-affirming medical procedures. Navigating bureaucratic systems is another core service: staff guide individuals step by step through the complicated paperwork, legal petition filings, and court appearances required for legal name changes and gender marker corrections on state and federal identification documents.

Beyond direct individual client support, GenderNexus actively works to foster broader societal understanding, systemic equity, and institutional competence. The organization conducts tailored, seminar-style diversity and inclusion trainings for corporate employers, healthcare systems, university faculties, secondary schools, and municipal agencies, helping institutions implement affirming policies and supportive practices. Community members seeking support, group schedules, or one-on-one appointments can contact staff online or by phone, while supporters can get involved through volunteer opportunities and charitable giving.
