Gulf Coast Equality Council
Gulfport, MS · Serving Mississippi Gulf Coast including Harrison, Jackson, and Hancock counties
Gulf Coast Equality Council unites and affirms lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals, families, and allies throughout coastal Mississippi. Established in 2017, the grassroots non-profit works to combat social isolation, foster mutual support, and enhance public visibility for sexual and gender minorities residing in Gulfport, Biloxi, and surrounding Gulf Coast communities where inclusive civic spaces have historically been scarce across Harrison, Jackson, and Hancock counties.
The organization coordinates year-round community programming and educational gatherings centered around celebration and solidarity. Its premier regional event, the annual Gulf Coast Equality Fest, gathers community members, affirming faith groups, local business sponsors, and civic leaders for a vibrant public festival featuring musical performances, educational exhibits, artisan booths, and health resource navigation. In conjunction with public events, the council produces regional social gatherings, seasonal celebrations, and holiday fellowship meals that foster lasting neighborhood connections.
In addition to cultural events, the council provides critical community navigation and resource referrals for residents seeking affirming local services. The organization curates directories of inclusive local healthcare providers, mental health clinicians, and affirming regional businesses. By collaborating with regional social service providers and coastal charitable partners, the council connects LGBTQ+ community members experiencing crisis to housing support, youth resources, peer networks, and emergency assistance, building a stronger regional support system.
