Korean American Civic Empowerment
Flushing, NY · Serving Flushing, Queens, New York City, and Northern New Jersey
Korean American Civic Empowerment is a nonpartisan civic advocacy and community empowerment organization dedicated to enhancing the civic participation and rights of Korean Americans. Established in 1996 in Flushing, the agency operates active offices in Queens and Northern New Jersey, mobilizing voters, training future community leaders, and defending immigrant rights across the metropolitan area.
The organization’s signature work focuses on nonpartisan voter empowerment and civic education. Staff and volunteers conduct extensive voter registration drives, publish bilingual voter guides in Korean and English, operate election day voter hotlines, and coordinate nonpartisan candidate forums that ensure Korean American voters make informed decisions. In addition, the organization monitors election poll sites to enforce bilingual language assistance mandates under the federal Voting Rights Act.
Youth leadership and community legal support are central components of the agency's mission. Through the Grassroots Internship Program, high school and college students receive intensive training in community organizing, public policy analysis, legislative advocacy, and civil rights history. The agency also operates the Community Legal Services division, providing free legal consultations on immigration naturalization, small business regulations, and civil rights violations. Community members can access services by contacting the Flushing office. Supporters can get involved by volunteering during election campaigns, mentoring student interns, or making charitable contributions.
