The Urban League of Long Island is a regional civil rights and community development organization dedicated to enabling African Americans and other underserved communities to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights. Established in 1974, the affiliate serves residents across Nassau and Suffolk counties, working to eliminate racial barriers and expand socioeconomic opportunity throughout Long Island.

The agency provides targeted direct services in workforce readiness, small business growth, housing counseling, and youth development. Through its signature youth program, Project Ready Let's Surge, the organization prepares middle and high school students for academic success, collegiate admissions, and career exploration through STEM activities, digital gaming workshops, and mentor partnerships. Its workforce development initiatives deliver vocational computer training, career coaching, job placement assistance, and hiring fairs connecting job seekers with regional employers.

Housing equity and research are core components of the organization’s mission. The affiliate offers housing counseling covering homeownership preparation, mortgage literacy, foreclosure mitigation, and veteran transitional support. Through the State of Black Long Island Equity Council, the organization conducts research and community listening sessions that address systemic disparities in housing segregation, health outcomes, and economic access. Residents can access services by contacting the Plainview office or participating in regional workshops. Supporters can get involved by joining the Young Professionals or Guild auxiliaries, volunteering, or making charitable contributions.
