The Arc of High Point
High Point, NC · Serving High Point and Guilford County, North Carolina
The Arc of High Point promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, actively fostering their full inclusion and participation across Guilford County. Founded in 1957, the chapter works to ensure that individuals of all abilities have the agency to choose and realize personal goals regarding where and how they learn, live, work, and socialize. Through life skills development, creative arts, and systemic advocacy, the agency supports community members across every stage of life.
Core programming emphasizes practical independence and health equity. Wild & Free at The Arc serves as a signature transitional educational program for adults, integrating home living skills, creative expression, and vocational training through projects like a community cafe, arts boutique, and agricultural gardening. To meet critical health needs, the chapter coordinates Access Dental Care, hosting monthly dental clinics that provide specialized oral healthcare for individuals receiving Medicaid assistance. The organization also hosts the Creative Arts Studio, where participants explore painting and crafts while exhibiting their work locally.
Social connection and community service round out the chapter's comprehensive approach. Participants cultivate musical expression through the Heart & Soul Choir and engage in community leadership projects through the Aktion Club, a service group organized in partnership with local civic leaders. The chapter also offers family workshops on supported decision-making, special needs trusts, and educational advocacy. Community members access services through intake consultations and program meetings held at the Bellevue Drive center.
