About Harambee Dallas Festival

Harambee Dallas is an African American cultural festival created in the early 1970s by a steering committee at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center as an alternative to Halloween. It calls itself the oldest and largest African American cultural event in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and 2026 is its 52nd year. The festival was featured in a 2026 Bullock Museum exhibit on Texas festivals.
