Equality Arizona

Equality Arizona works so that LGBTQ+ Arizonans are treated equally under the law, with their full civil and human rights upheld by every level of government. Its mission is to build broad, inclusive communities that advocate for the civil rights, safety and social equality of LGBTQ Arizonans through civic engagement, community building and education. Founded in 1992, it operates as the Equality Arizona Foundation (a 501(c)(3)), Equality Arizona (a 501(c)(4)) and the Equality Arizona PAC.

At the Capitol, Equality Arizona tracks every session and publishes a bill watch list of measures to support and oppose. Its policy agenda pushes for LGBTQ+ inclusive nondiscrimination protections in employment, housing and public accommodations (including the bipartisan Equality and Fairness for All Arizonans Act), stronger hate crimes law, a ban on conversion therapy for minors, accurate identity records for transgender Arizonans and access to healthcare, while defending against anti-transgender and anti-LGBTQ+ bills.

Civic engagement runs through the work. Equality Arizona publishes a voter guide, helps people register to vote through the Your Vote is Your Voice campaign and hosts candidate forums, such as its Mesa Candidate Forum. Through the Equality Advocate program, resident-hosted local groups meet regularly for training and discussion and speak up at city councils, school boards and county and state decision points. A Community Advisory Board brings lived experience into the organization's priorities.
