Greater Phoenix Urban League

The Greater Phoenix Urban League supports minority families and underserved residents of the Valley of the Sun with connections to employment, housing, health care, education and civic engagement. Established in 1945, it is a local affiliate of the National Urban League.

Young people can join the Summer Youth Employment Program, a five-week paid internship for ages 16 to 21 that pays for 110 hours of work and job readiness workshops, with a counselor assigned to each participant. Youth services also include career coaching, financial literacy and college opportunities, and local businesses and nonprofits can host an intern at no cost. The league's Head Start program offers early childhood education for eligible children and families, with classrooms across Phoenix.

As a HUD-approved housing agency, the league offers foreclosure counseling, first-time homebuyer education online and in person, and on-site resident services at affordable apartment communities. Its Education and Excellence Initiative works with the National Urban League and community partners to expand access to quality learning, and the office serves as a voter registration location through its Reclaim the Vote initiative.

The Young Professionals auxiliary brings members ages 21 to 40 together for civic engagement, professional development and community service. The league also hosts the annual Whitney M.
