Equality California

Equality California is the statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization working to achieve lasting equality, acceptance and social justice for LGBTQ+ people in California. Based in Los Angeles since its founding in 1998, it puts its work into state law, elections, public health and community engagement.
Each year Equality California sponsors bills in Sacramento. Its 2026 legislative package includes 12 bills on health care access and privacy, LGBTQ+ students and transgender veterans, community safety, workplace protections and conversion therapy survivors, along with a budget request to protect transgender health care. Its Rise Up message connects that work across elections, legislation, public health and community engagement.
Equality California Institute, its educational arm, builds the next generation of leaders. The LGBTQ+ Leadership Academy trains people to seek elected and appointed office, the Comcast Fellowship places undergraduates in legislative offices in Sacramento for a summer, and the LGBTQ+ Appointments Program supports leaders pursuing appointed positions. The annual Fair Share for Equality conference brings community leaders, elected officials and policymakers together to direct resources to LGBTQ+ health and well-being, and cultural competency trainings have reached thousands of providers and community leaders.
