Los Angeles Urban League

The Los Angeles Urban League helps African Americans and others in underserved communities across Los Angeles County reach economic self-reliance, social parity, power and civil rights. A National Urban League affiliate since 1921, it puts that mission to work through job training, youth education, entrepreneurship, advocacy and transportation access.

Workforce Development is the largest front door. Backstage Careers prepares people for work in the entertainment industry, and the Construction Career Academy is a 10-week course that readies candidates for union apprenticeships and their entrance exams. Bridges LA Earn While You Learn offers free, hands-on training with industry-recognized certifications leading to union jobs, tech careers and the green economy, with cash stipends during training and transportation help when needed. Women In The Trades is part of that effort, and career fairs connect job seekers directly with employers.

The Entrepreneurship Center serves business owners with workshops, technical assistance and targeted initiatives such as a Learning Series, MBDA Urban Capital Readiness and Intuit IDEAS. For teens, BizCamp is a free summer program where students build original business plans and pitch them on stage. Through Access for All, powered by Butterfli, the League also administers affordable wheelchair accessible rideshare across the region.

The annual Whitney M. Young Jr. Awards Celebration brings civic, corporate and community leaders together to honor changemakers and support the League's work. Supporters can give, join through the membership and Next Gen Giving programs, or partner with the League on hiring and training.
