PFLAG Sacramento

PFLAG Sacramento works to create a caring, just and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. One of the oldest PFLAG chapters, it has connected Sacramento's LGBTQIA+ community members and their families for more than four decades, and it was co-founded by parents of LGBTQ+ children.

The heart of the chapter is three monthly support meetings. The Elk Grove group meets on the first Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church on Elk Grove Boulevard, the Sacramento group meets on the third Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral on Capitol Avenue, and a Zoom meeting runs on the fourth Wednesday at 7 p.m. Meetings are confidential and peer supported, open to families, friends, allies and LGBTQIA+ people, and free, with no membership required. A warm line is available for anyone who cannot attend.

The chapter keeps an intersectional lending library with books for all ages, available at its in-person meetings. Each year it awards the Follansbee-Hansen Scholarships, named for the chapter's co-founders, to LGBTQIA+ students across the Greater Sacramento region who show an interest in serving the community. PFLAG Sacramento also shows up for local and state advocacy, from school board meetings to Equality California's advocacy day, and tables and marches at LGBTQIA+ community events.

Volunteers can join the general volunteer list, a committee or the board. Student, individual and family memberships run from October through September, and donations can be earmarked for the scholarship fund.
