The Arc of Placer County

The Arc of Placer County helps adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities grow, connect and thrive through adult day programs in Roseville and Auburn. Its roots go back to 1958, when a group of parents organized to win their children the right to an education and opened Placer County's first classroom for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities the following year.

Today the organization runs three day programs. The Adult Achievement Center in Auburn teaches vocational skills, daily living, health and fitness, cognitive growth and mobility, and its clients volunteer at community centers and ranches and keep their own garden. The Roseville Adult Center, set in Downtown Roseville, follows a similar life skills curriculum with a civic focus, and its clients run their own recycling business. At Studio 700 Center for the Arts, clients are working artists who create photography, ceramics, greeting cards, paintings, wearable art, short films and theater, and sell their work to the public. The Arc also offers social recreation for adults and for youth starting at age 16.

To attend a program, a person first qualifies for services through Alta California Regional Center, then works with a service coordinator and schedules a tour of the program that fits. As a chapter of The Arc, the organization works with The Arc of California to advocate for full inclusion, and it shares future planning tools for families.

Volunteers help at fundraisers and community events, each program keeps a wish list for donations, and the Big Day of Giving is the organization's largest fundraiser of the year.
