PFLAG Hartford

PFLAG Hartford provides support, education and advocacy for LGBTQ+ people, their families and allies in Hartford and across Connecticut. A chapter of PFLAG National, it was co-founded in 1981 by Helen and Bob Brill, and it works to make the community healthier, better informed, safer and fairer for LGBTQ+ people and the people who love them.

Support meetings welcome LGBTQ+ people who are newly out or not yet out, parents and family members supporting a loved one, teachers and counselors, and friends and allies. The Adult LGBTQIA+ Support Group meets virtually on the second Monday of the month from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the Parents & Allies Support Group meets virtually on the first Tuesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. An in-person Monthly Meeting takes place on the third Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Immanuel Congregational Church, using the Woodland Street entrance. A weekly group for parents and allies of transgender people mixes faith-based discussion, a book club, shared stories and trans-specific education. Each month's meeting includes an education topic, and special programs have covered suicide prevention training and a name change clinic. A lending library of books and films is available at meetings.

The Brill Scholarship, supported by the Brills' gift and by donors, is awarded each year to Connecticut students entering their freshman year of college who are involved in support, education or advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community.
