Basically Wonderful

Basically Wonderful creates accessible, peer-led spaces welcoming to Queer, Trans and Disabled communities. Founded in Central Florida in 2021, the nonprofit designs its groups and events to be anti-ableist and intersectional, so people can connect with community, find belonging and share moments of joy. Every space is free to attend.

Disability (Is Not a Bad Word) is a virtual peer-led group for disabled and neurodivergent adults that meets twice a month, with a planned topic at one meeting and open sharing at the other. No diagnosis or disclosure is required, and virtual meetings include live captioning. Basically Wonderful also hosts virtual book and media clubs, including the Disabled Babes Book Club and If You Give a Trans Person a Book Club, with scholarships so the cost of a book never keeps anyone out.

Community Events bring people together in person and online through craft spaces, hobby workshops, panel discussions, dance parties and resource fairs, plus two pride celebrations each October: Pride at the Park in person and Come Inside With Pride online. In-person events require masks. Through the Growing Roots Initiative, members volunteer monthly with local grassroots partners such as Neighborhood Fridge and Central Florida Mutual Aid.
