The Arc of Marion

The Arc of Marion creates opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, work and play to the fullest of their capabilities in Marion County. Its roots go back to 1959, when Ocala parents of children with disabilities founded the New Hope School for Children. Long known as ARC Marion (Advocacy Resource Center), it reaffiliated with The Arc of Florida and The Arc of the United States in 2019.

The Adult Day Training program at its Ocala campus lets each person choose their activities for the day, from daily living skills, cooking and hygiene to the computer lab, arts and crafts, performing arts, recreation, volunteering and community outings. Job-focused options include janitorial and lawn service training, an Enclave Program and a transition into community employment, and a Senior Program and Enhanced Supports Program offer smaller groups for people with higher support needs.

Two group homes provide round-the-clock support and training in personal care, cooking, cleaning, shopping and home upkeep, and supported independent living coaches help adults manage money, find housing and roommates, and stay healthy. A transportation team brings clients to and from programs and out into the community. Families who are sorting through iBudget, CDC+ or managed care options can get plain-language guidance, help with applications and ongoing advocacy.
