The Arc of Putnam County

Since 1974, The Arc of Putnam County has provided advocacy, individually tailored living environments, meaningful day activities, work training and employment services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome and spina bifida. Its mission is a community-based support system that helps people of differing abilities thrive and take full part in Putnam County life.

Adult day training runs at two sites in Palatka, with person-centered goals, life skills, fitness and safety classes, field trips, monthly cooking events and dances. The renovated Whittaker Center serves people with moderate to profound disabilities, with support guided by certified behavior analysts. The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program offers group therapy, medication education, paid work opportunities and specialized support for people with both a mental illness and an intellectual disability.

Residential services include five group homes, supervised apartments at Tyrrell Oaks, and Supported Living coaches who help people living in their own homes with banking, shopping, health, housing and community connection. Through bArc Bites, residents bake and package dog treats from spent grain donated by Azalea City Brewing Company, earning a paycheck while building job skills.

The community gathers for the Bridge Walk for Inclusion over the Memorial Bridge in Palatka and the annual Eddie Mooney Awards, which honor local champions of inclusion. The Arc Summer Camp welcomes children of all abilities ages 5-12. Supporters can volunteer directly with participants or at events, join the Power of Putnam monthly giving circle, sponsor, or buy bArc Bites from local retailers.
