Georgia Equality

Georgia Equality works to advance fairness, safety and opportunity for LGBTQ+ Georgians, their allies and everyone living with HIV. Formed in 1995, it focuses on policy change at the state and local level across Georgia, in cities, suburbs and rural communities alike, not just metro Atlanta.

The work is carried out by two organizations with a shared mission: Georgia Equality, which works year-round to pass pro-equality legislation and elect fair-minded officials, and the Equality Foundation of Georgia, which runs voter registration and education, informs decision makers and mobilizes LGBTQ+ residents and allies. Issue areas include transgender advocacy through TransAction Georgia, youth and safe schools (including support for the Georgia Safe Schools Coalition's annual GSA Summit), HIV/AIDS health equity through the Georgia HIV Advocacy Network, housing justice, hate crime protections, parental rights, marriage equality and local nondiscrimination ordinances.

Each year brings a Legislative Advocacy Training to prepare people for the General Assembly session, urgent action alerts, an election center with endorsed candidates, and Evening for Equality, the annual gala in Atlanta. A Critical Resources page points people to health, HIV/AIDS, housing and transgender resources across Georgia.

People can take action online, sign up to volunteer (in-person volunteer nights are held in Atlanta and pride tabling and canvassing happen across the state), join a citizen board, or donate to Georgia Equality or the Equality Foundation of Georgia.
