Thomas Grady Service Center

Thomas Grady Service Center supports adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Thomas and Grady counties to live, learn, work and thrive, with health and safety first. Its mission is person-centered: every person seen, heard and supported to live a life shaped by their own choices, strengths and goals.

The center began in 1967 with parents in Thomasville and Cairo whose children could not attend public school because of a developmental disability. They went door to door asking other families to trust a new program, and paid for it from their own pockets and community donations until public funding arrived. That parent-built program is now a community agency, affiliated with The Arc, working from a two-building campus on Plantation Oak Drive in Thomasville.

Services for adults 18 and older include Community Access Group outings that build skills and confidence, one-on-one Community Access Individual support, Community Living Support in people's own homes, residential services, skilled nursing, and supported employment with training, job coaching and workplace support. Days are spent out in the community: riding and grooming horses, bowling, swimming, museum visits, trips and cooking together.
