UTOPIA Hawai‘i
Wahiawa, HI · Serving State of Hawaii
UTOPIA Hawai‘i, legally chartered as the United Territories of Pacific Islanders Alliance Hawaii, is a grassroots organization dedicated to supporting transgender, gender diverse, and MVPFAFF+ Pacific Islanders across the Hawaiian islands. Founded in 2017 and operating from Wahiawa on Oahu, the organization establishes spaces of belonging rooted in indigenous Pacific cultural values, mutual aid, and self-determination for communities that navigate systemic social, medical, and legal marginalization throughout the islands.
The organization coordinates vital peer support networks, cultural arts presentations, and leadership development programs. Signature cultural traditions include the annual Miss Showgirl of the Pacific Pageant, held at the historic Hawaiʻi Theatre Center in Honolulu, which honors Pacific Islander artistic expression, elegance, and traditional pageantry. Alongside public cultural showcases, UTOPIA Hawai‘i facilitates community talanoa dialogue circles, storytelling sessions, and peer-led workshops that affirm indigenous gender identities within modern Pacific contexts. These gatherings provide essential cultural grounding and intergenerational mentorship for youth and elders alike.
Community members also receive direct healthcare navigation, emergency mutual aid supplies, and advocacy services that address housing stability, workplace protections, and civil rights. Through coalitions with regional community health centers, native cultural trusts, and human rights advocates, the organization works to amplify Pacific Islander voices and foster sustainable community resilience across the state.
