Serves LGBTQ+ individuals, youth, students, and welcoming local businesses across the Quad Cities metropolitan areaLGBTQIA+Registered nonprofit

Quad Citians Affirming Diversity, widely known as QCAD, advocates for equality, safety, and community connection for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer residents across the bi-state Quad Cities region. Founded in 1990 by community advocates seeking supportive spaces for LGBTQ+ youth, the grassroots organization has spent more than three decades advancing local nondiscrimination protections, supporting community initiatives, and fostering public awareness throughout northwestern Illinois and eastern Iowa. The group focuses on eliminating discrimination and cultivating spaces where all people are respected.

A core initiative of the organization is the Safe Connect project, which identifies and certifies local businesses and public venues that commit to providing welcoming, affirming environments for LGBTQ+ patrons and workers. Participating establishments display certified decals, and QCAD maintains an online directory allowing community members to find safe retail, dining, and service options across the metropolitan area. The organization also administers the Joyce Wiley Memorial Scholarship, awarding academic funds to undergraduate and vocational students who demonstrate leadership, educational achievement, and service to the LGBTQ+ community.

Operating remotely through volunteer leadership, QCAD coordinates educational campaigns, participates in regional civic coalitions, and maintains resource referrals connecting residents to emergency assistance, peer groups, and inclusive healthcare. Community supporters can contribute by nominating welcoming businesses, applying for educational scholarships, or participating in regional advocacy projects.
