Tri-County Urban League

The Tri-County Urban League is a Peoria nonprofit working to expand educational, social, and economic opportunity for Black residents and others in need across Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and McLean Counties. Established in 1965, it organizes its services under the Pipeline to Prosperity, a path that follows people from early childhood through job placement.

Education is at the core of the work. The Community Computer Learning Center offers GED and Pre-GED instruction with state-certified teachers, and after-school tutoring is free for students from kindergarten through college. The Tomorrow's Scientists, Technicians and Managers Program (TSTM) encourages minority and other disadvantaged youth toward careers in science, technology, engineering, and business through field trips, scholarships, mentoring, and an annual recognition banquet. The Summer Youth Employment Program gives young people ages 16 to 24 paid work experience and career counseling, and the Parent-Child Education Center provides childcare for children from six weeks to five years old.

Adults can work with a counselor on job placement, job readiness workshops, and interview preparation, and the Workforce Closet supplies professional attire for job seekers. The counseling department offers supervised family visits, family habilitation, and parenting classes, including Becoming a Love & Logic Parent. Services are offered at minimal or no cost.

Volunteers can mentor or tutor young people, join the Urban League Guild, or apply for an internship.
