BlaqOut is a pioneering healthcare, wellness, and community advocacy organization established to dismantle systemic health inequities, eliminate HIV transmission, and uplift Black LGBTQ+ and same-gender-loving communities throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. Established in 2017 in response to disproportionately high rates of HIV and healthcare exclusion impacting Black queer individuals, BlaqOut has established itself as an essential clinical and social anchor that combines direct medical care with grassroots political organizing and cultural empowerment.

The organization operates state-of-the-art clinical facilities in Kansas City's Midtown and Columbus Park neighborhoods, creating welcoming, culturally grounded spaces where patients receive compassionate care without stigma or financial burden. BlaqOut provides confidential in-clinic and at-home HIV testing, comprehensive STI screenings, and primary HIV healthcare. The organization is a regional leader in HIV prevention, delivering comprehensive access to daily and injectable Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), emergency Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), and DoxyPEP. Through its user-friendly TelePrEP platform, individuals can complete telehealth appointments and receive confidential prescription deliveries directly to their doorsteps.

In addition to preventative care, BlaqOut leads the groundbreaking PRISM initiative, a specialized program for Black gay men and gender-expansive adults ages 18 to 34 that provides access to cutting-edge long-acting injectable treatments like Apretude and Cabenuva. The organization pairs medical administration with dedicated patient navigators who assist with insurance enrollment, transportation access, and pharmacy coordination to ensure long-term treatment adherence and optimal viral suppression.

BlaqOut's holistic mission extends beyond clinic walls through dynamic community development and leadership programs. The organization coordinates Level Up, a peer-driven outreach initiative that engages networks of young adults in health education and screening. The LEAD Fellowship provides intensive leadership training, mentorship, and civic engagement experience for emerging queer Black leaders, while the SWAG program delivers strengths-based wellness workshops centered on mental health and brotherhood. Furthermore, The Resistance Lab serves as a community organizing hub where members analyze public policy, coordinate voter education, and mobilize against discriminatory legislation.

By collaborating closely with regional health departments, community clinics, and civic coalitions, BlaqOut actively addresses social determinants of health including housing instability, food access, mental health stigma, and employment discrimination. The organization hosts educational symposiums, cultural celebrations, and community listening circles that celebrate Black queer heritage while building systemic community power. Through these initiatives, the center ensures that Black LGBTQ+ voices are centered in regional public health planning, clinical research, and local civic policy decisions across Missouri and Kansas.

Through its patient navigation network and community partnerships, BlaqOut provides direct assistance with transportation vouchers, emergency food access, affirming mental health referrals, and linkage to safe housing resources. The organization also hosts regular peer support groups and social mixers that build brotherhood, self-affirmation, and resilience among Black queer and same-gender-loving community members.

Through its unwavering commitment to racial justice, clinical excellence, grassroots organizing, and community-led solutions, BlaqOut creates transformative pathways toward health equity, liberation, and collective wellness across the Kansas City region for generations to come.
